Lewis H. Taylor, 84, of Toughkenamon, passed away Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at Christiana Hospital, Newark, Del.

He was the husband of Elizabeth (Betty) Smith Taylor, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage.

Born in West Grove, he was the son of the late Irving and Mabel Pierson Taylor.

Lewis owned L.H. Taylor Contractors for 27 years. He was vice president of London Grove Contractors for six years. In 1985 he developed Free-Lance Estimators Inc., which he operated until recently.

Lewis was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.

He was a member of the New London Lodge #545 F&AM for 56 years, Royal Arch Masons Chapter #223, Reading Consistory, Rajah Temple Shrine and Brandywine Shrine Club. Lewis also was a member of the Historical Construction Equipment Association, the American Truck Historical Society and the American Truck Collectors Association.

He collected watch fobs pertaining to the construction industry.

His home was the gathering place for family and friends. He enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was a source of inspiration to each of them.

He is survived by his wife; five children, Betty Lou Epler and husband, Bill, of Quarryville, Charles R. Taylor and his wife, Catherine, and Jeanne C. Taylor, all of Toughkenamon, Lewis H. Taylor Jr. and wife, Susan, of Landenberg, and Kathleen A. Davis and husband, Zello, of Jennersville; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Pierson and Francis Taylor; two sisters, Bertha James and Helen Somers; and beloved daughter-in-law, Nancy Taylor.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16, at the Edward L. Collins Jr. Funeral Home Inc., 86 Pine St., Oxford, where friends and family may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

Interment will be in Longwood Cemetery.
